Kat Eckert - Editor & Content Writer
(and several other things besides)

It's time I explained myself...
Hi, my name is Kat, and I am a TEFL-certified editor and business development professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. I am 32 years old, happily married, and care for two maniacal fiends - I mean - adorable housecats. I am a US citizen, and I’m currently travelling internationally with my little family. We are currently visiting Uruguay, where we are practicing the awe-inspiring martial art aikido, drinking lots of yerba mate, learning Spanish, and finding out if I'm brave enough to try surfing.
I had the pleasure of working as a Teacher’s Assistant in college, editing and providing APA formatting feedback on undergraduate Psychology papers. These myriad hours in a small closet-like "office" combing through text and references line by line, sometimes character by character, are what first sparked my interest in editing. Turns out I like staring at pages and pages of black text on a stark-white background, unless dark mode is an option of course.
Suddenly my high eye prescription is making a lot of sense...
But in all seriousness, it's the reading and the problem solving that make editing, proofreading, and even fact-checking enjoyable. Editing and writing involve a lot of pausing, thinking about what is being said, and considering if it could be said better, more clearly, or creatively. Correcting grammar issues is just the cherry on top of the editing fudge sundae. Or maybe it's more like a banana split? Whatever dessert it is - it has nuts.
And it's me, I'm the nut.
Okay, down to business. I have a breadth of experience in a few different industries, providing editing and proofreading services for about a decade. My work experience has allowed me to hone my skills in copyediting, proofreading, and compliance evaluation. I've functioned as the go-to person for performing the "final check", fact checking, or just reading through material to make sure it's coherent. In fact, I got my TEFL-certification this year (2025) to encounter the English language, grammar, and usage in a new way, as if seeing it for the first time.
I am fascinated by language, logic, and communication, interests that make me an avid reader, writer, list-maker, record-keeper, and researcher. As an editor, my focus is on clear communication and ensuring that the author's voice and ultimate message shine through in each sentence and every word. I believe that language is powerful, and that the writer, editor, and reader are continually working in dialogue to uncover truth, beauty, and all things that make live worth living.
Am I waxing poetic? Most definitely.
If you find yourself figuratively (or literally!) nodding along in agreement with me at this point, please continue exploring the rest of my website. :) Scroll to the bottom of this page for my contact information. I'd love to hear from you!
Questions & Answers
Why are you traveling?
Life is short, and my husband and I value exploration and adventure! We were also deeply affected by an short story by Ursula K Le Guin called, "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas", which led us to explore a different path than the most seemingly straightforward one.
Why is your professional website so unusual?
I find the usual way of presenting information unnecessarily obfuscating and dull. Following a homogenous and restrictive template of presenting information about someone's work history, personality, and professional goals shows little about who a person really is.
Why did you choose this career path?
I believe that the winning career combination is passion, experience, and aptitude.
Post graduation, I edited course materials for an online training company (copy editing and proofreading) and evaluated/edited technical proposals for a social science research company for two years. I also enjoyed two years writing and editing marketing copy and educational materials for two years for a niche entertainment/edutainment business.
Scripts for live performances are probably my favorite thing to write, because I get the privilege of seeing what I've written come to life and capture the hearts of audience members. But I truly enjoy all things around editing, writing, and communication. This interest and aptitude (I believe I can safely claim) has allowed me to thrive in a variety of different industries including litigation, social science research, edutainment, and even IT support.
